The 2017 Westside Farms Estate Chardonnay from Ramey is simply gorgeous. The Chardonnay is selected from Block 1, which was planted in 1990 to the Yolo silty loam soils, derived from sedimentary formation in aluvial fans. As far as the wine itself, it bursts open with vibrant aromatics of orchard fruits, lemon oil, peach skin, honeysuckle and vanilla blossoms which are accented by underlying mineral characteristics of crushed stones and hints of dried soil. On the palate this is beautifully textured, with a vibrant core laced with flavors of sliced pear and citrus flavors that are framed by a lovely combination of minerality and bright acidity, which provides wonderful energy. It continues to impress as it displays outstanding focus and precision all the way through the racy, mineral-infused finish. This is a stunning Chardonnay from David Ramey which is showing beautifully today, but also has the potential to offer a drinking window that could span a decade.
