What an incredible effort from what an estate that is considered a “Grand Cru Vineyard” of California. The XO Reserve is aged for 16 months in new French barrels, with 25% of them being new. The nose bursts with aromas of boysenberry, kalamata olive, freshly ground black pepper, roasted pine nuts and a hint of asphalt and tar. Let this wine decant for 2-3 hours and be prepared for the nose to evolve constantly during that time. On the palate, this Syrah is expressive, structured, balanced and absolutely gorgeous. Think notes of fresh and baked blackberry, charcuterie, toasted Thanksgiving spices, loamy soil and Spanish black olives. The wine finishes on the savory on the palate and the fruit will only become more prominent over the next 5 years. Incredibly delicious now, but give this one a few years in your cellar. Highly recommended. Only about 90 cases produced.
