Syrah from Washington is my favorite grape from the state and this Columbia Valley Syrah from Corliss is a great example. A small amount of Roussanne was co-fermented with the Syrah which gives the nose some lift, floral notes, and structure. Deep and brooding in the glass, it’s so dark you almost can’t even see through it. The nose is classic Washington Syrah, and opens with notes of bacon fat, black olive tapenade, smoked meats, wild blueberry, and freshly ground pepper. The balance is impeccable, with a rounded, lush mouthfeel and a savory finish that goes on and on. Enjoy this one now with a heavy decant or over the next 15 years. Highly recommended.
