The 2015 Chais du Batard Châteauneuf-du-Pape opens to aromas of raspberries and cherries, laced with spices, juniper and forest floor nuances. The palate is full-bodied and structured around round, velvety tannins which expand beautifully across the palate. The wonderful soft texture is absolutely delightful as it works its way through the wine and leaves a lasting impression of ripe dark fruits and spices. This is already drinking remarkably well and should continue to do so for up to a decade. (Best 2017-2027)

The L'Esprit de Maucoil comes from old vines, minimum 70-years old, and is a blend consisting of all 13 Châteauneuf-du-Pape grape varietals. On the palate this is beautifully textured, with wonderful purity of fruit, combined with earthy characteristics all building up to the long finish. The 2015 'Cuvèe des Cadettes' from Château La Nerthe is s blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre from 85-100 year old vines. It begins with an extremely aromatic profile of black cherries, fresh raspberries, cassis along with and exotic spices, forest floor and damp flowers all takking shape. On the palate this possesses a plush texture with flavors of red cherries, exotic spice, ripe strawberries, orange zest and pomegranate. The full body coupled by a wonderful elegant mouthfeel which ends exceedingly long, with big bold flavors lingering. Overall this is a fantastic showing, but patience will be rewarded, as this is ultimately an ageworthy red which will benefit with some additional cellaring before it will show its best. The 2015 Château la Nerthe is an excellent showing which consists of all 13 allowed varietals in Châteaneuf-du-Pape, however Grenache is the predominant varietal. It begins with pretty aromas of dark plums, cassis, red currants, dark soil and baking spice. On the palate this is medium to full bodied with lots of ripe fruits backed by layers of complex flavors. This is a beautiful red that is approachable now and also has plenty of ageing potential. (Best 2018-2032)

The 'La Guigasse' is another simply fascinating wine form Chapelle St. Theodoric in this vintage. This cuvèe comes from pure sand soil and where the Grenache vines range in age of from 50 to 100 years. Made in a traditional style using traditional, using whole-cluster, this opens to striking aromatics of black raspberries, plum, fresh florals, spices and earthy minerals all coming together beautifully. On the palate, this possesses lovely elegance, with a fine, silky texture and fantastic overall balance and focus. This continues to impress with sweetly ripened red berries and florals at its center, which expand through the long, pretty finish. Today, this is a bit more accessible than the 'Le Grand Pin', nonetheless a wonderful wine to cellar for many years. (Best 2020-2034)

The 2015 'Le Grand Pin' is all about elegance and finesse. This old vine Grenache was sourced from sandy soils in a parcel at the top of Pignan, which is literally adjoining the vines of Château Rayas. The wine itself is simply beautiful, aromatics of raspberries, red plum, floral, lavender, spices, licorice and crushed stones fill the glass. On the palate this simply striking as it displays a gorgeous, fine texture, with fantastic focus and clarity. It continues to impress as it remains beautifully balanced through the refined, silky finish. This is a totally captivating Châteauneuf-du-Pape, however at this stage it is only shows a glimpse of its full potential, as it will demand significant time in the cellar before it hits its stride. The Croix de Bois is an absolutely wonderful showing in this vintage. It begins with a complex profile of black raspberries and plum are woven together with lavender, exotic spices, licorice, cured meat, white pepper, wet stones and savory nuances all taking shape. On the palate this is full and seamless, with a gorgeous round, texture and striking finesse making it impossible to resist. It continues to impress with its excellent depth, with a core of ripe fruits which expand on to the long, beautifully polished finish. It continues to impress with its excellent overall balance and focus as it leads up to the ultra-long finish, where juicy red and dark fruits leave a lasting impression. On the palate this displays outstanding overall structure and balance, with gorgeous silky tannins and a wonderful combination of ripe fruit and acidity making it nearly impossible to resist. This is amongst one of the most impressive examples of this cuvèe, which I can recall, and although it is absolutely fantastic now, this will only become more appealing with time. (Best 2020-3034)
