2013 Top 100 - Rank # 55
The 2011 'Colombis' is 100% Grenache from 60 year old vines; 33% from the Colombis terroir (sands) 33% from the Quartier les Roues/Le Cristia terroirs, and 33% from other. It brings fantastic aromas of dark ripe cherries, raspberries, milk chocolate, black pepper, spices, lavender with an underlying fresh note of wet stones. This is well structured and balanced with a beautiful soft, velvety texture and a long caressing finish that leaves behind cherries and rich chocolate notes. Winemaker Isabel Ferrando used 100% whole cluster fermentation and aged the Grenache 18 months in 2-wine old conical oak barrels. This can be approached early on with some lengthy air contact, but will be at its best after some short to mid-term cellaring. (Best 2015-2025) - August, 2013 (JD)
