The 2009 Fosssacolle Brunello di Montalcino opens up with classic aromas of cherries and dried spices followed by cedar, earthy minerals with subtle hints of licorice. It demonstrates excellent balance, boasting a medium-full body supported by velvety tannins and underlying acidity giving the wine lift into the spicy finish. This wine undergoes an interesting aging process; half the wine is aged 12 months in French oak, followed by 12 months in Slovenian oak; the other half gets the the same treatment, but in the opposite order. The wine is then transferred into glass-lined cement vats for another 12 months before an additional 8 months in bottle. This is already showing well and won’t require much additional cellaring as it is very approachable today. (Best 2014-2019) - April, 2014 (JD)
