The 2012 Firriato ‘Chiramonte’ is 100% Nero d’Avola from the deep clayey soils of the Dagala Borromeo estate, which is located on the countryside of Trapani in western Sicily. This Nero d’Avola delivers aromas and flavors of wild red berries, damp earth, spices, tobacco, roasted herbs and crushed stones. It possesses a medium body, which is backed by underlying acidity that carries over into the finish. Overall, this is a nice value that should drink well for the short term, but give it another year to flesh out. (Best 2015-2017) - August, 2014 (JD)
