This Chardonnay comes from the Dierberg Vineyard located in the Santa Maria Valley. The vines were planted clay, shale and sand soils in 1997. The resultant wine is simply gorgeous, delivering pretty aromatics of green apple, lemon zest, flinty minerality and white flowers all soaring from the glass. It has striking acidity, coupled with citrus and orchard fruit flavors. This will likely show its best stuff with some short-term cellaring and continue to drink well over the course of the next decade.
