The 'Grand Vin' from Kapcsándy is utterly captivating in this vintage. This wine was aged in 88% new French oak, and also utilized a touch of Hungarian oak. The nose imparts striking aromatics of crème de cassis, wild blackberries, violets and hints of chocolate all taking shape in the glass. The overall structure and mouthfeel is simply marvelous, as it beautifully coats the mid-palate. This continues to impress as flavors of ripe blackberries, huckleberries, black tea and anise flavors all beautifully combine together. The bright acidity, purity of fruit and salinity of the wine thoroughly impresses all the way through the long precise finish. Overall this is a simply stunning showing, which has all the elements for an exceedingly long evolution, and may become even more compelling over time.
