The 2014 Rocche di Castiglione Barolo is a simply beautiful wine from Vietti in this vintage. In 2014 pre and post-fermentative maceration were done with the traditional method of submerged cap. Malolactic was done in oak, and the wine spent approximately 30 months in Slovenian oak casks. The wine itself is gorgeous, as it begins with fresh strawberries and cherries which are woven together with spices, wet stones with hints of botanical herbs and black truffle. On the palate this is refined and elegant, with fine silky tannins, displaying wonderful structure and precision from start to finish. While 2014 Rocche di Castiglione is an utterly fascinating wine, however it is quite austere at this juncture and will certainly require a considerable amount some patience before it hits its stride.
