VIETTI Barolo, Ravera 2014

Sourced from the 3-hectare vineyard Ravera vineyard in Novello, this looks to be the most compelling wine from Luca Currado in this vintage. Ravera lies on a south-west exposure and consists of vines averaging 25-years, with the oldest vines planted over 80-years ago to the clay-limestone soils. The wine itself is simply sensational, as it begins with striking aromas of fresh strawberries and cherries which are joined by wet stones, mint, florals and hints of spice and iron, all developing beautifully in the glass. On the palate this is just as captivating, as it possesses remarkable elegance and precision, along with fine tannins, which provide remarkable structure. It continues to show wonderful focus and concentration through the beautiful long finish. While Ravera certainly already shows signs of its brilliance, it is still displaying some youthful austerity. That being said this a magnificent Barolo, which possesses incredible aging potential, and readers should plan on allowing it plenty of time to fully develop.
