The 2012 'Vigna Elena' Barolo Riserva is a total beauty in this vintage and already showing remarkably well. Sourced from the Ravera Cru, this was aged 36 months in large, used Slavonian oak, followed by 24 months in bottle prior to release. The result is a stunning Barolo, which instantly begins with pretty aromatics of dried strawberries and cherries woven together with spices, tar, orange peel, dried florals and wet stones all taking shape in the glass. On the palate this is beautifully structured with fine tannins and wonderful overall balance and precision. Classy and sophisticated this continues to impress all the way through the long, graceful finish. While this is already quite fascinating, it still has a marvelous future ahead and should continue to provide plenty of enjoyment for years to come.
