The 2016 Clos Fourtet is an utterly captivating showing from the Cuvelier Family. Composed of 90% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc from a single block of vines at the top of the famous limestone plateau. As it slowly unwinds it releases gorgeous aromas of bright red and dark fruits which are nuanced by tobacco, fresh florals, licorice and minerals all coming together beautifully. On the palate this is medium-bodied and tightly wound with outstanding precision and definition through the long finish. Elegant and refined this is a classy and sophisticated Saint-Émilion Grand Cru which will require at least a few more years of cellaring before it becomes fully expressive. Nonetheless, this is a remarkably well made wine which will go on to age gracefully for many years to come.
