The Tierra Roja vineyard is a small four-acre vineyard located on the eastern hills of Napa’s Oakville district and earns its name from the brilliant red (roja) soils. Tierra Roja is also a prime piece of real estate, surrounded by some iconic names like Screaming Eagle, Baccus and Maya. This 2011 Tierra Roja Cabernet Sauvignon from Tor Kenward needs no further introduction, it is absolutely stunning with seductive aromas of beautifully ripened dark fruits and spices which are layered with graphite, mocha, fresh violets and topped off with some dusty minerals. It offers a wonderful velvety texture, which is very well structured, but this is most impressive for its balance, concentration and focus. Dark fruits, mocha and graphite notes make an encore as they weave their way through the long, voluptuous finish. This is a sensational Cabernet that gets better and better with each swirl of the glass and even though this is already offering so much, it will only become better in time. Only 150 cases made.
