2012 was a difficult vintage in Saint-Emilion, but there is no indication of that at Château Ausone. The 2012 is absolutely gorgeous, with wonderful purity and freshness. Intoxicating aromas of dark cherries, blackberry, tar, tobacco, pain grille, mineral and spring floral immediately emerge from the glass. It possesses an elegant, fine-tuned structure along with excellent depth and focus all the way through the finish. I tasted the wine at Ausone literally 2 hours after bottling, so its possible the wine may shut down after some time in bottle, but today the wine was showing absolutely stunning, and certainly looks to be a very bright spot in this vintage.
