The 2012 ‘Two-Fourteen' is a wonderful 100% Cabernet Franc sourced from the Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard in the southeastern corner of Napa Valley. Here, the grapes benefit from moderate temperatures and a cooling breeze from the San Fransisco Bay. This Cabernet Franc is the only known bottling in all of California made exclusively from this unique 214 clone. The wine itself is on the modern side, but with extended air contact this begins to also take on classic characteristics of Cabernet Franc from the Loire Valley. It delivers aromas of blackberries and dark currents followed by sweet spices, pepper, dried herbs, tobacco and fresh violets, which all come together beautifully in the glass. On the palate, this possesses a full body that shows excellent depth and structure, while continuing to impress all the way through the long finish, which leaves behind a mouthful of dark fruits and savory notes. This is accessible right now, however it also shows the potential to age for years to come. (Best 2016-2027) - January, 2015 (JD)
