This Barolo is sourced from an area in the Cannubi-Muscatel Cru, with vines only 15-years in age and planted to clayey and calcareous soils. As far as the wine itself, the 2011 is absolutely gorgeous, slowly opening up with pretty aromas of ripe strawberries and cherries followed by mint, sweet spices and hints of licorice that come together beautifully. It displays wonderful focus with a firm structure, backed by fine-grained tannins which grip hold on the finish. Overall, this is an excellent traditional style of Barolo from winemaker Francesco Baravalle and should evolve gracefully over for many years to come. (Best 2018-2031) - June, 2015 (JD)
