The 2013 'Calderara Sottana' is a magnificent blend of 98% Nerello Mascalese, 2% Nerello Cappuccio from vines between 50 and 100-years-old on the northern slope of Mount Etna. As this fascinating wine slowly unwinds in the glass it releases lovely aromas of wild red berries, fresh cassis, rose petal and exotic spices, which all come together in this elegant Rosso. On the palate this is beautifully balanced and structured, with a gorgeous silky texture and long finish. Today, this is absolutely delightful to taste, however it should also age gracefully for many years to come. (Best 2016-2029) - July, 2015 (JD)
