The Nebbiolo for this stunning Barolo is mainly of the Lampia and Michet sub-varieties, which is planted to clayey and calcareous soils with a southern exposure in the Ginestra Cru. The grapes for the Riserva are carefully selected and immediately after picking they are crushed and destemmed, followed by maceration for 22-28 days in special tanks prior to aging in 35 hl French oak casks for over 4 years with an additional 12 months in bottle. The 2007 is simply outstanding, as it bursts open with dark cherries, blackberries, spices, tar, floral and mineral notes. The Riserva possesses a lovely texture, with its full-bodied frame that is beautifully balanced and well structured, showing a gorgeous layer of underlying acidity. This brings a multitude of ripe juicy fruits, which resonate across the palate into the silky, polished finish where it demonstrates remarkable length. Today the Riserva is absolutely brilliant, but also shows the potential to evolve for many years to come. (Best 2015-2033) - August, 2015 (JD)
