The 2012 Gramercy Cellars ‘Inigo Montoya’ Tempranillo is a blend of 85% Tempranillo with 15% Syrah, sourced from vineyards in the Walla Walla and Columbia Valley, including their estate block, which contains some of the only Spanish clone Tempranillo in the valley along with Los Collines and Minick vineyards. The wine itself offers aromas of red currant and stewed strawberry followed by spices and a touch of new oak. Upon entry the wine brings flavors of black plum, blueberry compote and blackberry flavors with a tar character. The lush mouthfeel is well balanced and backed by nice streak of minerality. Today this wine is very accessible and will be even better in a year or so. Winemakers Greg Harrington and Brandon Moss plan to move this to 100% Spanish Clone Tempranillo next year, from their estate vineyard, which will be certainly interesting to see.
