ODDERO Barolo, Bussia Vigna Mondoca 'Riserva' 2009

The 2009 Bussia Vigna Mondoca 'Riserva' is a lovely showing and surprisingly quite accessible at this early stage, given Oddero’s reputation of making traditional style Barolo, which typically demands years of bottle age. The 2009 opens up beautiful in the glass, with pretty aromas of red berries and hints of plums woven together with licorice, sweet spices and rose petal along with a touch of tar and sweet balsamic reduction. This is well structured and possesses a gorgeous silky texture with wonderful balance through the long finish. Although it appears this may be approachable upon release, I expect it will take a few years of cellaring before this hits it stride. (Best 2017-2030) - September, 2015 (JD)
