The 2013 Carignane is a beautiful effort from winemaker Tegan Passalacqua who produced 5 barrels of this gorgeous wine from the Ukiah Cemetery vineyard in Mendocino. This head-trained and dry-farmed vineyard was planted in 1953 and is farmed by the astute Colombini family. As the wine itself begins to open in the glass it releases aromas of wild red berries, intense lavender and violets, white pepper, minerals and hints of tobacco ash. This medium-bodied, sleek red is beautifully balanced and shows outstanding focus and precision through the silky finish. Overall, an incredible expression of Carignane and a fantastic wine that I only expect to improve as it evolves over the next decade. (Best 2016-2026) - November, 2015 (JD)
