It is a extremely rare when all the components in a wine all come together perfectly, but that is the case with the 1990 Château Angélus. This majestic wine offers intoxicating aromas, beginning with gorgeous black cherries and dark currants laced with Asian spices, smoke and peppered meat leaping from the glass. On the palate this doesn’t miss a beat, the fruit is still remarkably ripe, possessing a wonderful inner-sweetness and the tannins have softened beautifully, yet remain present and just enough to providing a fantastic structure for the wine. It continues to impress with wonderful depth and impeccable overall balance and finesse leading into the absolutely long, seductive finish. Today the 1990 is a thing of beauty and drinking absolutely perfect, that being said there is still a ton of life left in this completely compelling wine. There is no doubt this is one of the greatest wines ever from l’Angélus. (Best 2016-2030) - May, 2016 (JD)
