MACROSTIE Chardonnay, Wildcat Vineyard 2013

Even better than the Sonoma Coast bottlings is the 2013 Wildcat Vineyard Chardonnay. The Wildcat Vineyard was planted by Steve MacRostie in 1998 which was a mountainside ranch in the Petaluma Gap region on the borderlands of the Sonoma Coast. This windswept vineyard lies at 700 feet in close proximity to the bay. The high elevation Chardonnay wine opens with aromas of brioche, Shitake mushroom, orange blossom and lemon oil. There are flavors of Gala apple, Bartlett pear, nutmeg and toasted hazelnuts with lemon accents. This expressive wine has with a long and lingering finish. This shows a wonderful range, fruit weight, texture and complexity, as I think this will cellar beautifully into the next decade. (Best 2016-2025) - May, 2016 (OB)
