GROTH Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville 2013

Groth Vineyards spans 165 acres in the Oakville AVA and the block utilized for this Cabernet lies right adjacent to that used for the 'Reserve' Cabernet. Head winemaker Michael Weis has elected to blend this Cabernet with 20% Merlot, and age it for 22 months in French oak (60% new) prior to bottling. Having a deep core, this expressive Cabernet opens with aromatics of mocha, graphite, eucalyptus, and blackberry pie. Exceedingly seductive on the mid-palate, this wine is bursting with flavors of milk chocolate, wild blackberry jam, anise, crème de cassis and suggestions of Turkish coffee. This is a pleasure to drink young, but also shows excellent aging potential. (Best 2016-2029) - November, 2016 (OB)
