A.A. BADENHORST White Blend 2014

Each year this interesting white blend from A.A. Badenhorst varies slightly, in this vintage it is composed of 31% Chenin Blanc, 17% Grenache Blanc, 14% Roussanne, 12% Verdehlo, 8% Clairette Blanche, 7% Viognier, 6% Semillon 3% Marsanne and 2% Palomino which were sourced from small parcels of selected fruit from various vineyards in Kalmoesfontein, the Swartland area and the greater Paardeberg Mountain. Winemaker Adi Badenhorst strategically selects some fruit earlier to give the wine some acidity and some later to add ripeness. As this begins to open it releases exotic aromas of lemon oil, Bosc pear and peach notes woven together with white floral, fresh almond, nectarine zest, honeysuckle, dried spices and dusty minerals all coming together beautifully. On the palate this demonstrates remarkable overall balance and focus with a striking round texture, which is supported by a lovely touch of underlying acidity. Today, this is showing incredibly well, and I expect it to continue to do so over the next few years. (Best 2016-2022) - November, 2016 (JD)
