CHÂTEAU DUCRU-BEAUCAILLOU Saint-Julien 2013

2016 TOP 100 WINES | Rank #30

The 2013 is an exceptional showing from this esteemed Château in Saint-Julien. This historic vineyard lies on the eastern edge of Saint-Julien, near the Gironde and among the deepest layers of Quaternary gravel stones. This terroir plays an evident role in the wine as this shows lovely traces of minerals throughout. As this opens it offers gorgeous aromas of blackberries and cassis, along with fresh spring floral, graphite and spices, all coming together in the glass. On the palate this possesses remarkable overall balance and a mineral laced core, which leads into the long, expansive finish. This already offers some early appeal, and should continue to age for gracefully for years to come. (Best 2018-2030) - September, 2016 (JD)

CHATEAU DUCRU BEAUCAILLOU Saint Julien

En Primur Tasting: The 2013 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou looks to be a classic Saint-Julien, elgant in style, fresh and structured with plenty of potential. Currently it is very fleshy and primal, not offering as much or as forward some other 2013's from Saint-Julien at this early stage, but certinaly will prove to be one of the few age worthy wines from the vintage. - June, 2014 (JD) - 93-95
