From one of the most recognized names in all of Italy, Angelo Gaja — the 2014 Ca’Marcanda ‘Magari’ is a blend of 50% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc. As this slowly begins to unwind in the glass it releases aromatics of red cherries, spices, tobacco, grilled herbs and earth which are all underlined by mineral accents. This medium-bodied red is still a bit austere and on the leaner side with a notable layer of acidity at its core. The finish shows notable length and is marked by cherry and spice characteristics. While I expect this will soften and become a bit more approachable over the next few years, I suspect the drinking window will hits its peak within the decade. (Best 2019-2026) - June, 2017 (JD)
