The 2012 Ribera del Duero Reserva from Tamaral is a forward, stylish approach, made from 100% Tempranillo, sourced from old vines between 45 and 100-years-old, which are situated at more than 950 meters of altitude in the town of Pesquera de Duero. The Tempranillo spent over 24 months in a mix of French and American oak which leaves a profound impression on the wine as it opens to aromas of black cherries, blackberries, toast, vanilla, sandalwood, spices and leather all taking shape. The palate is full-bodied with polished tannins and a voluptuous mouthfeel yielding flavors of ripe dark fruits, spices, toast and even adding in some mocha nuances, which are all wrapped up in a plush finish. A modern style of Tempranillo, which will be accessible early on. (Best 2017-2023) - July, 2017 (JD)
