VIETTI Barolo, Lazzarito 2013

The 2013 Lazzarito is another utterly compelling Barolo from Luca Currado in this vintage. The grapes are selected from the 2-hectare cru in Serralunga d’Alba, which is planted to vines with an average age of 35 years. Today, Lazzarito is already quite expressive, delivering aromas of blackberries, cherries, tar, mint, violets and sweet spices along with hints of leather and minerals, which all resonate beautifully from the glass. It displays remarkable overall structure, balance and depth with gorgeous fine, polished tannins, making a wonderful transition into the long finish, which leaves behind spices and juicy dark red fruits lingering. This Barolo sees approximately 30 months between French oak barrels and Slovenian oak casks, and at the moment seems to be the most accessible of Vietti’s single-vineyard wines in this vintage, however also possesses the qualities to age gracefully.
