The 2014 Palengat Red is an utterly compelling blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc. This vintage has utilized considerably less Merlot than the previous vintages and the fruit is entirely sourced from the Horse Heaven Hills AVA. The aromatics are dense and expressive showing spicebox, anise, crème de cassis, coffee grounds and cayenne pepper nuances, which constantly bring you back to the glass for more. The mouthfeel is full and voluptuous with intense flavors of crème de cassis, anise, coffee grounds, candied red cherry and hints of pipe tobacco. This is showing its masculine side as the Cabernet Sauvignon plays a dominant role, with the Cabernet Franc adding to its structure towards the back end. Overall, this is a remarkably well-made wine, which will cellar marvelously for a decade or more. (Best 2017-2030) - July, 2017 (OB)
