The 2015 Melville ‘Terraces’ Pinot Noir comes from the west side of Melville’s estate, where the three undulating slopes of Terraces cascade down from Block M where they face severe wind pressure, several different sun exposures and challenging drainage issues. The Pinot Noir is a unique combination of older California field selections of Swan and Mount Eden with newer Dijon clones of 115, 667 and 777. As this gorgeous Pinot Noir begins to open it releases bright aromatics of black cherries, black winter truffle, nutmeg and white pepper nuances. The palate is plush and dense, showing ripe flavors reminiscent of red cherries, red currants, guava and forest floor with hints of Shitake mushroom. This possesses a wonderful combination of dark fruits and terroir driven characteristics, which make it extremely compelling. (Best 2017-2028) - August, 2017 (OB)
