Formally known as Cannubi-Boschis, this Barolo now takes on the name ‘Aleste’ after Luciano's Grandchildren Alessia and Stefano. The 2013 ‘Aleste’ is an utterly brilliant showing in this vintage, remarkably pure, elegant and simply gorgeous, this Barolo instantly impresses with beautiful aromas of fresh strawberries and red cherries, which are woven together with flowers, fresh mint and hints of tar all soar from the glass. On the palate this is finely textured, displaying wonderful overall balance and finesse, along with excellent depth of flavor. It remains extremely focused and precise through the long, pretty finish, as it leaves behind a mouthful of juicy red fruits lingering. While this is ultimately and age worthy wine, the Aleste is already showing some lovely early appeal. This is an absolutely sensational Barolo, which I expect will continue to thrive in the cellar, and become even more compelling as it takes on additional complexities over the course of many years to come.
