MAYACAMAS Chardonnay, Mount Veeder 2015

An utterly captivating showing from Mayacamas, the 2015 Chardonnay was whole cluster pressed and fermented in a combination of small barrels (7% new), stainless steel, and large format foudres prior to seven months on lees, for a total ten months of aging. The finished wine saw an additional nine months in bottle before release. The end result is a simply brilliant wine, which instantly bursts open with vivid aromatics of lemon oil, green apple and pear, joined together with orange zest and salty minerals which all come together in the glass. On the palate this is beautifully textured, with wonderful elegance and lovely streaks of minerality running through its core. This continues to impress with its stunning combination of acidity and minerality which is absolutely outstanding, as this remains laser focused through the bright, vibrant finish. Overall, this is a absolutely fascinating Chardonnay which is already extremely attractive, yet will continue to drink well with additional bottle age. Overall, this is a total gem from the team at Mayacamas, which should not be missed. (Best 2018-2027) - January, 2018 (JD)
