The 2016 'Close Planted' Pinot Noir is a total beauty from Timo Mayer. This was sourced from one acre of Pinot Noir, planted in red rocky volcanic soils with sedimentary rocks, at 75cm apart, which is double the planting density to the rest of the vineyard. The result is a beautifully elegant Pinot Noir which offers bright aromatics of strawberries and wild raspberries which come together with dried spices, violets, orange zest, stony minerals, along with lovely earthy and savory nuances adding complexity. The silky, refined texture is simply striking, as this glides effortlessly across the palate with remarkable finesse. It continues to impress as sweet red fruits and light spices notes expand through the wine. It remains balanced, precise and vibrant, as everything comes together gracefully on the pretty finish. Overall, this is a wonderful terroir driven wine, and it's winemakers like Timo Mayer who are showing us this beautiful style of Australian wine.
