The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 'Gualto' is a lovely showing from Camigliano. This was sourced from soils consisting of sandy clay with fossils, marl, and plenty of limestone on the west edge of Montalcino. The wine was aged 36 months in wood, French oak barrels 20 hl, prior to the final two years in bottle. The result is a refined Brunello which begins with aromatics of wild berries and plums woven together with spices, licorice, citrus zest and mineral accents. Medium-bodied with a gorgeous round, silky texture. Remains balanced and beautifully structured through the pretty finish.
