The 2013 'The Lark' is a completely captivating wine from Larkmead and winemaker Dan Petroski. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from older vines (17+ years old) and comes from an anomaly in the rocky A block - a patch of Bale loam (sand) surrounded by Cortina Gravel. The result is a simply stunning wine which begins with seductive aromatics of ripe dark berries, currants, violets, spices, tobacco and graphite all taking shape in the glass. This is full-bodied and incredibly well structured with remarkable balance and gorgeous textural richness that envelops the palate. It remains beautifully focused and precise leading up to the long, mouth coating finish. While this is simply outstanding now, it is ultimately an age worthy wine built to last. One of the most impressive wines I’ve tasted from this fantastic vintage.
