BODEGA CATENA ZAPATA Malbec 'Alta' 2013

The exceptional Catena 'Alta' Malbec is another outstanding release from Bodega Catena Zapata in 2013. This intense bottling was sourced from Block 18 of the Angelica Vineyard in Lunluta, Block 4 of the La Piramide Vineyafd in Angrelo, Block 1 of the Nicasia Vineyard in San Carlos and Blocks 3 and 9 of the Adrianna Vineyard in Gualtallary. Head winemaker Alejandro Vigil aged this Malbec wine 18 months in French oak prior to bottling, and a further 24 months in the bottle upon release. Once in the glass the wine slowly develops aromas of violets, Turkish coffee, rose petals and blueberry pie. On the palate there are dense flavors of mocha, crème de cassis, anise, graphite, blueberry jam and crushed violets. The remarkable balance, silky texture and underlying acidity make this completely compelling. This gorgeous effort will continue cellar beautifully into the next decade. (Best 2016-2027) - August, 2016 (OB)
