The 2016 'RWT' is an absolutely sensational showing from Penfolds in this vintage. Aged in French oak puncheons for 12 months prior to bottling, this begins with oaky and chocolate nuances which provide a beautiful complement to the deep dark and blue fruit aromatics. The texture of this full-bodied red is sinfully good, as it glides beautifully across the palate leaving behind profound flavors of black tea, blueberry compote, blackberry cobbler, cigar ash and boysenberry cordial which utterly delight the senses. While this is nothing short of delicious now, it is ultimately an age-worthy wine that will demand some time in bottle before it fully hits its stride.
