2012 TOP 50 WINES - Rank #34
The 2009 Virginie de Valandraud delivers beautiful aromas of freshly crushed blackberries, black cherries, espresso, violets, charcoal and vanilla which leap from the glass. Full-bodied and well balanced with a rich tannic spine. The finish is long and powerful, leaving a gorgeous lasting impression. The tiny Chateau Valandraud lies near Chateaux Pavie Macquin, Ausone and La Clotte. Virginie de Valandraud is not the second wine of Jean-Luc Thunevin's Chateau Valandraud but stands as an individual wine made from its own designated vineyard. It takes its name from Jean-Luc and Murielle's daughter: Virginie. (Best 2013-2024) - October, 2012 (JD)
