The 1998 is the first vintage under Gérard Perse at Château Pavie, and it is absolutely sensational, with gorgeous aromas of dried black cherries and currants along with exotic spices, earthiness, cedar and some meaty and mineral notes, all coming together beautifully. On the palate, this is beautifully textured with flavors of black cherries and spices weaving their way into a soft, caressing finish. This is still alive after almost two decades, as the tannins have softened beautifully, yet it still remains well structured and balanced. This is in a wonderful spot right now, but I expect this to continue to drink well over the next decade. (Best through 2025) - October, 2016 (JD)
