CHÂTEAU RIEUSSEC Sauternes 2005

A magnificent wine, the 2005 Chateau Rieussec shows nice promise at this juncture in its long development. 2005 was a vintage marked by drought and a cool August and September, which allowed for some slow ripening. This intense wine begins with aromas of crème brûlée, crushed white flowers, marzipan and hints of vanilla bean. There are dense, concentrated flavors of orange marmalade, poached pear, vanilla, crème brûlée and bananas foster. The viscosity and hedonistic quality of this wine is gorgeous, while the mid-palate glides effortlessly into the exceedingly long and memorable finish. (Best 2016-2035) - September, 2016 (OB)
