DOMAINE du GROS' NORÉ Bandol 2009

top100-ico2013 Top 100 - Rank # 56
Alain Pascal has been farming premium fruit in Bandol for years, selling this prized fruit to prestigious estates like Domaine Ott and Château de Pibarnon and only bottling very small amounts for family consumption only. It wasn't until the passing of his father that Alain decided to officially start Domaine du Gros ‘Noré in the rolling hillsides around La Cadière d’Azur. The 2009 is a compelling wine, it brings an old-world character, but it's also remarkably ripe and concentrated. The bold aromas of damp earth, tar, pepper, dark chocolate and roasted herb notes immediately leap from the glass, then you get a fresh element from the lavender and mineral notes which are all layered within dark plums and blackberry fruit. This demonstrates remarkable balance, depth and finesse with a gorgeous caressing finish. While this 2009 Bandol, which is composed of 80% Mourvèdre, 15% Grenache, 5% Cinsault is approachable right now, it also has potential to age as well. (Best 2013-2025) - August, 2013 (JD)
