Château de Portets is a lovely property in the heart of the Graves region, with vines hugging the river banks of the Garonne. Today, the Château and winemaking duties are run by Marie-Hélène, the granddaughter of Jules Théron. The wines at Portets are consistantly improving with every vintage and the dedication to the land along with the decision to restructure certain plots has paid off handsomely. The 2011 is a testament to the efforts put in to achieve the quality we see today. This wine displays the beautiful Graves terroir, with aromas of crushed stones and minerals along with sweet spices and subtle hints of sweet toasted oak framed by ripe blackberries. This shows wonderful elegance and is nicely balanced with lovely finesse through the finish. You can get away with drinking this early on, but I would consider waiting as it will age gracefully over the next decade. (Best 2016-2025) - February, 2015 (JD)
