The 1948 Hospices de Beaune Corton ‘Cuvée Charlotte Dumay’ opens up with aromas of spice and cloves with a hint of bacon fat. The characteristics transition over onto the palate where the spice is framed by delicate strawberry and other red berries, which are followed by a touch of earth and mushrooms. The wine was open for two hours before it was finished and it became more and more complex over time with great structure and still tannins present. On the back end, the berries lingered on the finish with the terroir really showing its stuff. This was a truly amazing Corton that will last in my memory. (Drink Now) - November, 2013 - (JR)
