The 2016 Cornas from Auguste Clape is another absolutely brilliant and classic effort from this ledgendary producer. It begins with simply dazzling aromatics of fresh dark berries and cherries which come together with spices, pepper, smoke, fresh violets, black olives with some herbal and earthy elements all adding wonderful complexity. On the palate this is remarkably well structured, with incredible overall precision and balance. It continues to impress with its remarkable class and sophistication through the ultra-long finish. Auguste Clape has a track record for making some of the very best wines in Cornas and they are considered by many to be amongst the finest wines in the the world, and the 2016 is a clear example of why they have earned that esteemed reputation. Overall, this is a simply fascinating Cornas, which will ultimately go on to evolve gracefully for many years to come.
