The 2014 Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Domaine de la Janasse is a lovely showing from Christophe & Isabelle Sabon, which comes from 60-80 year old vines, planted to red clay limestone, galets and sand soils. This was aged 18 months in foudre (80%) and French oak barrels (20%) of which a third are new, and releases aromas of black raspberries and plum woven together with spices, pepper and some floral notes all coming together in the glass. On the palate this offers a gorgeous rich, polished texture and wonderful balance leading into the lingering finish. Overall this is a well made wine from the vintage which should continue to drink well over the next decade. (Best 2017-2027) - December, 2016 (JD)
