2016 TOP 100 WINES | Rank #36
The 2014 ‘Collection Charles Giraud’ is a sensational effort in this vintage. ‘Collection Charles Giraud’ is made from old vines with 55% Grenache (80 years old), 40% Mourvèdre (60 years old) and 5% Syrah (65 years old) planted to stony and sandy soils. The wine opens to gorgeous aromas of raspberries and plums woven together with exotic spices, violets and pepper with subtle hints of rosemary. On the palate this is simply device as it is beautifully balanced with remarkable finesse. There is a wonderful core of sweet red fruits with raspberry reduction flavors leading the way into the refined finish. While this is already extremely impressive at this early stage, there is little doubt this will continue to become even more compelling as it evolves gracegully over the next decade and beyond.
