The 2014 'Les Vieilles Vignes' Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Domaine de Villeneuve is an extreamly impressive showing in this vintage. The wine is composed from Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault and Clairette, from vines more than 30 years old, and some more than 110 years old. While this requires significant air contact to begin to fully express itself, once it does it releases simply beautiful aromas of bright cherries, raspberries and cranberries woven together with potpourri and lavender with hints of tarragon and orange zest. On the palate this is displays a gorgeous elegant, refined texture with remarkable balance and finesse. The vibrancy and silky mouthful makes this extremely appealing at this youthful age, however I expect this will continue to evolve gracefully for many years to come.
