The Le Vieux Donjon is a simply spectacular showing from the Michel family in this vintage. This blend of 75% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault instantly begins with seductive aromatics of ripe black raspberries and black plums woven together with black forest cake, savory herbs, spices and hints of lavender all taking shape. On the palate this is simply divine, as it offers full-bodied richness, which is backed by a wonderful round, voluptuous texture that is impossible to resist. It continues to impress with its remarkable depth, and layers of complex flavors that build on the palate. The finish is seamless and leaves a beautiful lasting impression. An absolute highlight in this vintage, the Le Vieux Donjon is extreamly enjoyable now, but will also prove to have a spectacular future as well. (Best 2018-2032) - December, 2017 (JD)
